Many wasps and bees have an hourglass-shaped body with prominent striping. Most also have a sting that they use for defense and/or for capturing prey.
 
  Tropical entomologists have long known that there are many other species of insects that lack a sting, such as flies, moths and beetles, that are remarkable mimics of bees and wasps. The mimics probably arose through A) interbreeding with wasps and bees in the remote past.
