Answer to Question 1

Answer: This mountain building event is associated with a convergent boundary. In order for the mountains to form, the oceanic plate, being the lighter of the two, was subducted beneath the continental plate, which pushed rock material upwards, creating the Andes Mountains. This, of course, took place over millions of years.
