The appropriateness of the power setting is determined by observing chest wall movement, or the chest wiggle factor (CWF). Increased amplitude is also associated with increased chest wall movement. The CWF should be visible from the level of the clavicle to the midthigh. Assessment of chest wiggle is difficult in obese patients.
