Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
If after failing an SBT the patient still meets the criteria for discontinuation of ventilation, anoth-er SBT should be performed every 24 hours. It is important to wait 24 hours before attempting another trial. Frequent SBTs over a single day are not helpful and can have serious consequences. Testing more frequently than every 24 hours offers no advantages.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
SBTs typically last at least 30 minutes but no longer than 120 minutes.
