Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
As noted earlier blood flow is regulated by dialing in a set RPM which results in flow. The flow is monitored using ultrasonic devices that are either incorporated into the system or added to the circuit.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
Thermoelastogram (TEG) is an emerging method of assessing anticoagulation. A small sample of blood is taken from a patient and rotated gently in a specific fashion to imitate sluggish venous flow and activate coagulation. TEG provides comprehensive whole blood hemostasis testing that can help assess bleeding and thrombotic risks, and also monitor antithrombotic therapies.
