Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
VC continuous mandatory ventilation provides all of the patient's minute ventilation as manda-tory breaths.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
By momentarily maintaining lung volume under conditions of no flow, an inflation hold allows additional time for gas redistribution between lung units with different time constants. In both animal and human studies, increasing the length of an inflation hold decreases the VD/VT, PaCO2, and inert gas washout time. Adding an inflation hold effectively increases total inspiratory time, thereby shortening the time available for exhalation.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
