Because of their strong alpha-1 activity and vasoconstricting effect, epinephrine and the synthet-ic racemic epinephrine are used to reduce swelling in the nose (nasal decongestant) and larynx (croup, epiglottitis) and to control bleeding during bronchoscopic biopsy.
