Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Ipratropium also can be used in treating acute asthma when first-line bronchodilators are ineffec-tive.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Hospital and ICU care for patients with asthma should be aggressive. The goals are to decrease mortality and morbidity and to return the patient to preadmission stability and function as quick-ly as possible. Management includes oxygen supplementation, frequent administration of high doses of aerosolized beta-2 agonists (limited only by tachycardia or tremor), high-dose parenteral corticosteroids (more than 0.5 to 1.0 mg/kg/day), and antibiotics if there is evidence of infection.
