How can you ensure reliability when measuring the expiratory reserve volume (ERV)?

To ensure reliability, the ERV should be measured at least twice and the two largest measure-ments should agree within 5.

The valve is turned to connect the patient to the breathing circuit usually at the resting expiratory level of the FRC.
