Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
Tidal volume (liters) = Inspiratory time (seconds)  Flow (L/min)  60 = 0.4  8  60 = 0.053 L, or 53 mL.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
A more stable jet flow seems to require a more substantial patient expiratory flow to cause the device to switch into expiration. The additional flow that is required for the ARABELLA sug-gests that a patient must work harder to breathe when this system is used.
