Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
The effect of increased ambient pressure on the partial pressure of alveolar oxygen (PAO2) can be explained by Dalton's law, which states that the total pressure of a gas mixture, such as air, equals the sum of the partial pressures of each of the constituent gases in the mixture. According to Gay-Lussac's law, if the volume of a gas remains constant, there is a direct relationship be-tween the absolute pressure of a gas and its temperature. It is reasonable to suggest that if the volume of a hyperbaric chamber remains constant, then increasing the pressure would raise the temperature inside of the chamber.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy exposes patients to a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure while they breathe 100 oxygen, either continuously or intermittently.

Lower drug doses for elderly patients should be used first, with titrations of the dose as tolerated to prevent unwanted drug-related pharmacodynamic effects.

Did you know?

Chronic necrotizing aspergillosis has a slowly progressive process that, unlike invasive aspergillosis, does not spread to other organ systems or the blood vessels. It most often affects middle-aged and elderly individuals, spreading to surrounding tissue in the lungs. The disease often does not respond to conventionally successful treatments, and requires individualized therapies in order to keep it from becoming life-threatening.

Nearly all drugs pass into human breast milk. How often a drug is taken influences the amount of drug that will pass into the milk. Medications taken 30 to 60 minutes before breastfeeding are likely to be at peak blood levels when the baby is nursing.

Between 1999 and 2012, American adults with high total cholesterol decreased from 18.3% to 12.9%
