ANS: C
Diplococci are spherically shaped bacteria that occur in pairs; gram-positive organisms appear blue or violet. Gram-negative organisms have a red appearance from the counterstain. Staphylo-cocci are cocci that occur in irregular clusters. Bacilli are rodlike organisms.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Staphylococcus is spread by direct contact. Measles are spread by droplets; hepatitis B, by indi-rect contact; and histoplasmosis, by airborne dust.
