Answer to Question 1

D
A pulmonary embolism can result in hypocapnia and hypoxemia in the local alveoli. In addition, there is the release of cellular mediators from platelets. All of these can cause bronchospasm.

Answer to Question 2

B
Endotracheal intubation should be performed as soon as possible because the patient is at a high risk for airway obstruction.
