Answer to Question 1

A
Hyperinflation will be caused by mucus plugs acting as an expiratory check-valve obstruction. Consolidation will occur when fluid fills alveoli during an infection. Neither pulmonary embolism nor pneumothorax is associated with bronchiectasis.

Answer to Question 2

C
Asbestos is known to cause mesothelioma, a cancer of the mesothelial cells lining the lungs and chest wall (the visceral and parietal pleura). The pleural effusion fluid, in this case, will show a mix of normal and abnormal mesothelial cells and lymphocytes.
