Answer to Question 1

A
Bag and mask ventilation should not be used on a newborn with CDH. It could result in air swallowing, which expands the stomach and intestines and further compresses the affected lung.

Answer to Question 2

D
In a patient with chronic ventilatory failure with hypoxemia, the PaCO2 will be increased with a normal pH because of metabolic compensation. Because of the chronic hypoxemia, the body compensates by increasing the hematocrit (and hemoglobin).
