Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
CJD is a rare dementia caused by a slow virus, meaning that the incubation period for harboring the organism and developing the disease is measured in years, rather than days, weeks, or months. CJD is an infectious dementia that is considered transmissible. Despite its long incubation period, its course is rapid; death almost always occurs within 2 years of onset.

Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
