Certain medications and food can alter the normal color of urine. Light amber-color urine is normal. Dark amber-colored or orange-brown colored urine is seen in dehydration. Strong ammonia-like odor in freshly voided urine is not normal. It may indicate abnormalities such as urinary tract infections. In overhydration, urine is lighter in color (almost colorless) and not orange-brown.
