Answer to Question 1

B
Feedback:
Preload is the amount of pressure or stretching force against the ventricular wall at end diastole (maximum relaxation of the heart). Cardiac output (CO) is the amount of blood pumped by the ventricles in 1 minute. In the resting adult, the normal amount is between 4 and 6 L. Stroke volume (SV) is the volume of blood ejected with each heartbeat. Afterload is the amount of pressure or resistance the ventricles must overcome to empty their contents.

Answer to Question 2

The role of the nurse should be to assist the client in regaining positive self-esteem by encouraging independence, rewarding progress, allowing the client to perform as much self-care as possible, and observing for symptoms of regression and depression.
