While proofreading your classmate's essay you note the following sentence: The nursing faculty shortage is a critical issue for nursing today because with fewer nursing faculty the nursing schools must turn away thousands of otherwise qualified
 
  candidates and therefore continuing to contribute to the growing nursing shortage in general which is expected to escalate to dangerous levels as the population ages and requires more care. The sentence is too long and should be broken in to multiple sentences in support of a central theme.
