Empirical knowing is ideal for use in the evidence-based practice process in that it focuses on methods of critically appraising and applying available data and research to un-derstand and inform clinical decision making.

The nurse remembers that there are three basic questions that are universal for any type of re-search study. Critique appraisal tools differ slightly in design and layout, but each tool asks these same questions of the research study: (1) Is it worth looking at the results of this study, can I trust the results (reliability)?
