Answer to Question 1

Ans: B
Feedback:
Research indicates that how the nurse perceives a situation or what the nurse thinks about a situation is the key to how he or she will respond to it. Two people in an identical situation could have very different feelings about it. One person may see the situation as very stressful and experience the effects of job stress. Another person in the same situation may see the situation as a challenge that he or she can overcome. Lack of stress does not necessarily indicate denial or lack of understanding. No one is wholly immune to all forms of stress.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: A
Feedback:
Mental and physical fatigue put nurses at risk for personal injury and clients at risk for errors in care. It is true that experience leads to confidence, but maximizing hours of work does not necessarily lead to better care. Work responsibilities do not always supersede personal responsibilities. A nurse should not feel obliged to accept all overtime.
