Answer to Question 1

Ans: C
Feedback:
The only statement that needs to be clarified by the nursing student teaching the high school students is that regarding working no more than 5 hours per week. A nurse in 1887 worked long hours 6 days per week. Nurses often worked from 7 am until 8 pm. At that time, nursing schools did not follow standards or regulations and a nurse caught smoking or drinking could be fired. New York was the first state to pass mandatory licensing for practical/vocational nurses.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: A
Feedback:
One of the early accomplishments of the Red Cross was to make rules for the treatment of the wounded and for the protection of medical personnel and hospitals. The Red Cross was not involved in advocating for nurses, establishing schools of nursing, or influencing standards of infection control.
