Nurses with more advanced preparation can join or even lead research teams. The role is vital to underpin nursing practice. All nurses need a basic understanding and comfort with the research process in order to identify studies that might pertain to their patient populations or work settings.
Nurses may have the opportunity to join research teams in their institutions and assist this process at some level, but this does not fully explain the stated opinion.
Nursing is a wide-open field with many areas needing research, but this is too narrow a description to explain the nurse's stated opinion.
Returning to staff nursing after a research study is finished does show flexibility but only for the nurses involved in a research project.
