Ethical behavior includes the fact that the student is accountable for his or her actions. The student's duty is to give the best care possible and in performing procedures as taught. The student is demonstrating responsible and ethical behavior. Talking with the patient or family may not be ethical, depending on the information shared during the conversation. A personal cell phone should not be used at all in the clinical facility.

Defamation of character is the act of sharing information that is malicious and false. When the defamation is written it is called libel. Libelous defamation is most frequently seen on a chart when inappropriate comments are made about a patient or the patient's family.
