  After the third hospital day, the exhausted mother states she would like to go home to shower and get clean clothes, but she does not want to leave her daughter. The nurse should:

The first step is to define the problem. The problem is that the mother is exhausted and by allowing her to refresh with a trip home to shower and get clean clothes, she will be better able to care for her daughter. The nurse has other patients to care for so cannot offer to stay with the child. If the mother leaves while the child is asleep, the child will be afraid to fall asleep in the future for fear her mother will leave again.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: 2
Abortion is against the nurse's personal values, so the nurse should ask the charge nurse to change her assignment. The nurse was better able to serve the client because she was familiar with her own personal values.
