The cause of a mottled or noisy appearing CR image would be:
 
 off centering
  high SNR
  low SNR
  too much collimation

Question 2

When imaging a portable AP chest, what can the technologist do to reduce the amount of heart magnification?
 
 shorten the exposure time
  increase the SID
  increase the SOD
  sit the patient semi-erect

Answer to Question 1

low SNR

Rationale: A low SNR may result in insufficient mAs administered, therefore, not enough photons generated.

Answer to Question 2

increase the SID

Rationale: Increasing the SID will compensate for OID between the part and the image receptor. Portable chest imaging must sustain a minimum of 40 inches, but if more distance could be achieved, then it should be applied.
