To maximize depression on a cross table lateral trauma c-spine, what could be considered to maximize depression of the shoulders?
 
 hold respiration
  administer weights to the patient's wrists
  use of a positioning sponge
  steadily depress the patient's shoulders by gently pulling down on the wrists

Where is the proper placement of the central ray for a 4th lateral digit of the hand?
 
 4th proximal interphalangeal joint
  4th carpometacarpal joint
  4th metacarpophalangeal joint
  4th distal interphalangeal joint

steadily depress the patient's shoulders by gently pulling down on the wrists

Rationale: Depression of the shoulders can be applied steadily and manually by gently pulling down on the patient's wrists. If the patient is experiencing any paralysis to the arms or legs or the patient has fracture to the upper extremity, depression is not recommended.

Answer to Question 2

4th proximal interphalangeal joint

Rationale: Digits 2-5 for both the oblique and lateral views require the central ray to be directed to the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) in question.
