Answer to Question 1

anode heel effect

Rationale: The angle of the anode influences the heel effect. With the anode heel effect, greater intensity of the beam will be emitted from the cathode end of the beam; therefore the patient's thicker end of the part should be positioned accordingly.

Answer to Question 2

PA

Rationale: The patella will be best imaged when positioned as close to the image receptor as possible. This will reduce magnification and improve detail of the part. Patella protocol entails: PA, mediolateral projection, and a tangential if there is no evidence of fracture.
