When performing an AP ankle, which of the following correctly describes its positioning?
 
 leg fully extended with slight medial rotation applied
  leg fully extended with slight lateral rotation applied
  leg flexed 45 degrees with the plantar surface placed on the image receptor
  leg fully extended with the foot left in natural position

Answer to Question 1

leg fully extended with the foot left in natural position

Rationale: The AP ankle will fully extend the leg and the foot should remain in a natural to only slightly dorsiflexed. The leg should not be rotated slightly medial or lateral; the medial and lateral malleoli should not be positioned to be parallel to one another.
