Answer to Question 1

1 superior to jugular notch with 72

Rationale: To include both joints on one image, the CR is directed 1 superior to the jugular notch and the SID must be set at 72.

Answer to Question 2

the humeral epicondylar plane is perpendicular to the IR

Rationale: For the AP nontrauma projection of the humoral, the palm is supinated and the humeral epicondylar plane is adjusted parallel to the image receptor. For the rotational lateral, the palm is internally rotated until the humeral epicondylar plane is perpendicular to the image receptor.
