Answer to Question 1

Baptists represent the largest group of denominations within Protestantism. In addition to the basic beliefs of Protestantism they believe in baptism by people who have been called to personal faith in Christ and stress the autonomy of local congregations and religious liberty with consequent separation of church and state.

Answer to Question 2

Protestantism includes a wide variety of Christian groups who separated from the Catholic Church. They share with Catholics beliefs in God as a trinity: God the Father who creates and sustains, the Son Jesus who was born, died and resurrected to save people from their sins, and the Holy Spirit. The groups are united by beliefs in salvation as a gift of grace and the priesthood of believers (who can thus communicate directly with God and read the Scriptures to learn about God and what is expected of Christians in terms of their response to Gods grace).
