Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

Piaget's concept of equilibration refers to the idea that children make cognitive advancements when they encounter situations they cannot explain using their existing understandings (i.e., when they experience disequilibrium). By replacing, reorganizing, or better integrating their schemes (i.e., through accommodation), children eventually are able to understand and explain previously puzzling events. In contrast, Vygotsky proposed that children are most likely to develop when they perform tasks within their zone of proximal developmenttasks for which they need the assistance of someone more skilled. (The response should include concrete examples that reasonably illustrate equilibration and the ZPD.)
