Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Aesthetic appearance, especially of the body surface is important. Surgeons have personal preferences of closure materials. Synthetic nonabsorbable and absorbable polymers are used more commonly because they cause less tissue reaction. Atraumatic swaged-on suture needles of small diameter minimize trauma to superficial tissue. The goal is to use material that will result in minimal scarring.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: F
LASIK is performed to correct myopia (nearsightedness). A combination of excimer laser and keratome is used to remove layers of the cornea. A small flap is raised in the center of the corneal dome. The laser is used to remove microlayers of tissue. The flap of corneal tissue is replaced without the need for suturing.
