Collagen or Teflon may be used as a bulking agent to swell the tissue and narrow the urethra for sphincter control. It is injected into the tissues surrounding the urethra proximal to the external sphincter and is performed in patients with urinary incontinence.

A cystoscopy is a visual examination of the interior walls and contents of the bladder. A plain cystoscopy is a routine examination of the bladder.
