Examples of iatrogenic injures in the OR include nerves injured from faulty positioning, such as hyperabduction or extension of the arm; loosened teeth or damage to dental work during endotracheal intubation; pressure sores from laying on poorly padded areas; fingers and body parts pinched in OR bed flexures; careless handling of an anesthetized patient resulting in paralysis; fractures or postoperative pain; and eyes injured from irritating anesthetics or facemasks or from drying or scratching of the cornea if the eyelids are not closed.
