Slow warming, adequate oxygenation, and prevention of massive sudden vasodilation are ways to prevent rewarming shock. If the patient is rewarmed too rapidly, vasodilation can cause a drop in blood pressure and shivering can cause organ ischemia. Also, constriction can occur with shivering.
