Answer to Question 1

ANS: F
The circulating nurse talks with the patient and makes sure all consents are signed and all testing data are available. They review the procedure with the patient and check for any allergies. The anesthesia provider meets with the patient to discuss the type of anesthesia to be administered.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: T
To prevent regurgitation or emesis and aspiration of gastric contents, the patient should not ingest solid foods before the surgical procedure. Fluids may be unrestricted until 2 to 3 hours before the surgical procedure at the discretion of the surgeon or anesthesia provider. This is referred to as NPO.
