Answer to Question 1

ANS: T
Electrosurgery or ESU uses an alternating current that passes through the patient's tissues and returns to the generator. Two forms of ESU generators are common, monopolar and bipolar. Electrocautery is the use of unidirectional current generated by a self-contained battery-operated disposable instrument with a wire at the tip. The wire heats and coagulates the tissue. Energy does not enter the patient's body.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: T
Charred or coagulated tissue should be removed from the electrode tip by scraping the tip on a disposable tip cleaner. If a coated tip is being used it may be cleaned by using a damp sponge. Using a scalpel blade should be avoided because the debris may become airborne and create a biologic hazard.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
