When conducting research, it is imperative that all researcherswhether they be college professors, practitioners in the field, or graduate or undergraduate studentsadhere to high ethical standards in their work. The response should include and illustrate at least three of the following guidelines:
 Keep your supervisor informed of what you are doing; seek the supervisor's permission for the research endeavor.
 Be tentative in reaching conclusions, recognizing that they are interpretations rather than facts.
 Use only those tests and research instruments for which you have been specifically trained.
 Be sensitive to children's perspectives.
 Consider any detrimental effects that a research effort might have on children's welfare, and make adjustments accordingly.
 Obtain the consent of participants and their parents.
 Respect children's privacy by keeping their individual performance confidential; report only group results.
 Be honest with participants about what you will be asking them to do.
 Address any questions or concerns that participants or parents might have.
 Share your results with children, parents, and professional colleagues.
