Reducing the risk of exposing OR personnel to the TB bacterium is accomplished by using disposable anesthesia equipment; postponing elective surgical procedures, if possible, until the patient shows a response to drug therapy; wearing TB-filtering masks to prevent the transmission of TB; and moving the patient into an isolation room that has negative pressure ventilation with a local exhaust and HEPA air filtration and/or ultraviolet radiation lamps.
