Answer to Question 1

Dogs are believed to be the first animals domesticated, and there are two main theories why. The first
theory is that dogs may have evolved from a canid ancestor similar to the pariah dogs that populate many
underdeveloped countries today. The second theory is that dogs are domesticated wolves. In this theory, wolf
pups were hand-raised by humans.

Answer to Question 2

During the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, 70 to 40 million years ago, placental mammals evolved, dispersed,
and adapted to new environments.
