Answer to Question 1

The minimum patient data base includes patient identification/signalment, patient history,
physical exam, and owner consent forms.

Answer to Question 2

Shaving the limb is the ideal preparation method. This is accomplished using a No. 40 clipper blade followed by a standard shaving razor. After wiping the leg with alcohol, ultrasound gel is applied. Should the owner refuse to permit clipping, an alcohol-gel slurry can be made and applied to the area of interest. The examination will be of lesser quality, and repeated attempts to perform this type of examination will decrease the life of the probe.
