Answer to Question 1

B
The nurse would expect a child who is diagnosed with ADHD and uses nicotine to report that the nicotine helps control ADHD symptoms. Studies do suggest that nicotine may have significant benefits in controlling symptoms of ADHD. The line between ADHD and smoking is particularly strong in girls, and there is some evidence for a genetic association between the two. Nicotine may have significant benefits in controlling symptoms of ADHD, although its therapeutic use for this purpose has not been proposed or accepted. On the other hand, alternative substances that act on nicotine receptors are currently being considered as potential treatments for ADHD.
