Palliative care includes pain medications, stomach ulcer prevention, skin and mouth care, and other comfort measures. Palliative care does not necessarily include IV hydration (or tube feedings). There is no purpose for doing range-of-motion exercises for this patient.

Mental health care for psychotic prison inmates is required by law. The level and quality of the services provided to an inmate vary, depending on the resources of the institution in which they are incarcerated. Large state and federal prisons may have a psychiatric staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurses, whereas smaller county jails may not have the funds to provide for that level of care.
