Answer to Question 1

C
The likelihood of a prison inmate who is mentally ill and homeless becoming homeless again upon being released is significantly decreased if the discharge plan provides for both shelter and mental health treatment. This may be part of the reason that there is an increased likelihood of the previously described inmate or client becoming homeless again after release if his sentence was 6 months or less, as opposed to those serving longer sentences. Short incarceration sentences of under 1 year are typically served in a county jail, as opposed to longer sentences, which are served in prisons. In a county jail, there is typically less planning done regarding an inmate's life after incarceration than in a prison.
