Question 2

Explain how the environment plays a critical role in learning, including how cultural influences and values within the community might affect cognitive development. Give an example of ways that parents, teachers, or adults in the community could facilitate learning in middle childhood.

Responses should discuss family, cultural, or religious values in terms of a relative emphasis on rote learning vs. construction of knowledge through active participation. Examples should be culturally relevant and could include the students' own experiences.
