The DSM-IV-TR alerts the clinician to gather information related to a culturally sensitive assessment. The information gathered includes cultural identity of the individual, cultural explanations of the individual's illness, cultural factors related to psychosocial environment and levels of functioning, cultural elements of the relationship between the individual and the child, and overall cultural assessment for diagnosis and care.
