They expect to be exploited or wronged by others and are wary; as a result, they remain apart from others to increase their sense of security. Patients with antisocial personality disorder may display superficial charm, but paranoid persons usually seem cold and aloof and would not seem friendly or open. Patients with borderline personality disorder are intense and impulsive, whereas patients with paranoid personality disorder tend to be controlled and superficial.
