Answer to Question 1

B
Pain is increased when the patient has muscle tension, and relaxation can diminish the patient's perceptions of the intensity of pain. Antidepressants have also been shown to be helpful in reducing somatization of emotional needs. Otherwise, treatment minimizes secondary gains (so the nurse would intentionally not focus a great deal on recurrent physical complaints, would not take vitals frequently, would not offer PRN narcotic analgesics (which can have a euphoric side effect), convey special support during somatic complaints, or release the patient from his usual responsibilities (e.g., to complete his personal hygiene).

Answer to Question 2

D
Making sound decisions and learning from past decisions describe this client's situation, but learning from past decisions applies the most in that he has made the wrong decision numerous other times in the past. Acceptance of self is not addressed in this scenario, and finding a balance between giving and taking refers to maintaining a balance between caring for others and taking care of oneself.
