  c. Carol is very sociable and outgoing; Chris is more quiet and reserved around peers.

Many motivation strategies can be summed up with the mnemonic MUSIC: eMpowerment, Usefulness, Success, Interest, and Caring.
 
  Write one paragraph for each MUSIC component and in each paragraph include (a) an explanation of how the component is related to students' motivation (e.g., Students are motivated when they believe that) and (b) an example of something you could do as a teacher (at any grade level or subject area) that would be consistent with that MUSIC component.

The third column of the figure provides some example strategies, as does the text in the Promoting Motivation and Productive Affect section. Students should provide strategies consistent with these types of examples.
